What is Hard Coat Anodizing?
Hard coat anodizing—also known as hard anodizing—is an advanced electrochemical process that produces an exceptionally hard, dense, and thick aluminum oxide layer on aluminum parts. The resulting coating is highly wear-resistant and significantly outperforms traditional finishes like hard chrome or electroless nickel in many demanding applications. The oxide formed in this process is similar to corundum, one of the hardest natural substances, second only to diamond. This makes hard coat finishes incredibly durable, often described as “file hard” due to their resistance to scratching—even with metal tools.
